Karina+Charles

Karina and Charles are a wonderful fun-loving couple. They got married on a gorgeous snowy evening in the winter wonderland of Brew Creek Lodge in Whistler. I thoroughly enjoyed being around the atmosphere of love and warmth that they created for their wedding. Here is a Slideshow of some of their wedding highlights....

Congratulations, Karina and Charles. I hope these images can help you remember what a beautiful day you had!

A Harmonica-Playing Wedding Photographer

Sometimes there isn't enough time to do a portrait sesh after the ceremony, so we spend a couple of hours before the ceremony making some cool pictures. I try to make things special when a Bride and Groom see each other for the first time on their wedding day. While photographing Christina and Andrew walking towards each other, I whipped out my harmonica and played an impromptu tune for them while shooting. They are an awesome couple and we had lots of fun!

First Dance

My wife Regina came across some funny clips on YouTube. There's definitely a trend towards mixing formal and entertaining elements for the "first dance" at a wedding. I like way these couples gave their guests a lil' thrill on their first dance! Check 'em out:

Stop and take the picture

One of the things that I stress to my friends and to photographers that I mentor is that one has to bring a camera everywhere one goes to make good photographs. Many times, we are in a rush to get somewhere and think to ourselves, "That looks cool; next time I'll stop and get the shot!". Thing is, in regards to that moment, that day, that feeling, that light.... there IS no next time.

Often, when I'm driving from Whistler to Vancouver on the Sea to Sky Highway,
I'll be looking up at the Squamish Chief, or as it's more correctly named, Stawamus Chief in awe. The rock is sometimes revealed in steaming silver sunlight after a rain or after snowfall. This time, the snow made a beautiful contrast with the rockface.

We were on our way to a baby shower in Burnaby (actually, I was joining buddies for the Superbowl, Regina was going to a baby shower) and I DID pull over when it was safe and took one minute to get a shot of Diamondhead, and five minutes later, of the Chief. I'm glad I did! And took one more when we got to the top of Burnaby Mountain where we were watching the game.

On Thursday, our friends Camille and Chadwick ofJonetsu Photography invited us for dinner and drinks in Whistler. Camille cooked a great dinner of beef kebabs and a yummy candied salmon and goat cheese salad. Um, and lots of red wine to ease it down. ;-) Chadwick also played host-with-the-most, even making me a cappuccino with a machine as big as our car. Their friends Kelly and Thom
joined us a little later and we had a wonderful evening together while great lovely cold crystals dropped from the night sky. It was truly a winter wonderland up there!
Luckily, I brought my skis..... :-D

Friday morning dawned with still more snow falling and we lapped up a fantastic day of Whistler-Blackcomb's finest. WOW. What a day! I showed Chadwick and Thom a spot they hadn't seen before. I just love the exhilarating sense of freedom & flight skiing gives us. Communing with nature in the crisp alpine air together with the fast camraderie of mutual enjoyment lends one a tremendous sense of contentment!

We all had that pleasantly tired and sore feeling when we got back to the "cabin" (bigger and better appointed than our house!) and had another glass of red wine to toast a great day!

Thank you so very much, Camille and Chadwick. We have been working a bit too much lately and you gave us a wonderful gift by inviting us up. Our turn next time!
